A Sikh Akali seated upon an Elephant complete with tulwar and shield (Dhal). This image is dated on the reverse as 24 Jan 1966 and is an Associated Press Photo. The label on the reverse reads as follows:"A Sikh rides one of the eleven Elephants which walked in the six-mile long procession in New Delhi, India, January 18, held to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth and last religious leader of India's ten million Sikhs. Nearly 250,000 Sikhs took part in the procession held in New Delhi and all the Sikh temples were illuminated and free food was distributed in many drought-stricken areas."A rare and unusual image from the 20th Century.
